Happy Tug Tails
The Baits
Happy Tug Tails are the product of decades of fishing success and a dream of one day turning a passion into a business. As a kid growing up on Lake Michigan, perch fishing filled many summer afternoons. There was always one bait that outproduced the rest. As I continued to fish and go to many lakes across the state, I realized that many techniques and baits I used on Lake Michigan worked very well almost everywhere. As time passed, the baits we used started becoming as scarce as the bait shops anywhere, and I decided to start making them myself as I started producing them and sharing them with friends on fishing trips. I was excited to see the success and great reviews from even some of my most skeptical fishing partners. Fast forward to today. The dream of making fishing a business has come true. Our entire family is involved in the fun apparel we have brought to the market. I am happy that my father, who introduced me to fishing, is having an absolute blast as our head Happy Tug Tail producer.
The Happy Tug Tails are a plastic tail typically fished on jigs. They are unique to most tails I’ve ever been able to find in the shape throughout the body of the bait. Most other Baits I would find in shops would have different tails, or something that varied in the size throughout the body. Happy Tug Tails have a consistent shape throughout the body of the bait. The slight tapper from top to bottom just fishes different;y than every bait I have used in this category. We are launching with the colors that I have had the most success with over the years, hence the colors I started using when I started producing my own baits.
1 Inch Bait
Ultimately, I started making this size as I started doing more ice fishing for pan fish. I run this size when I am on a bite and want to target larger more aggressive panfish. I typically thread the tail through my jig head and tip it with a wax worm or a minnow head.
1.5 Inch Bait
This size tail is the reason It all started. I have grown up fishing this bait and once it became impossible to find I had to have it. I typically fish this size tied with two jig heads and bounce it across the bottom or what ever structure I am fishing. Depending on the bite, I will tip these tails with a small piece of worm, or a full live minnow. I also spend plenty of time fishing these baits with just the jig head and tail. This size tail is responsible for more fish fry’s in my house than any full time job ever provided!
2 Inch Bait
Maybe the size I am most excited about moving forward. I no longer only target perch and I have used this bait successfully on 2 very different applications. I have used this tail when targeting perch that I knew were feeding on shad and have had an absolute field day. I also have fished this tail during spring and fall walleye bites and have had massive success with it plain on a jig head and tipped with a fat head on a jig. The second place I have started using this bait is surf fishing in Alabama. I cannot believe the success I have had letting this bait swim on the sand just behind the break of a wave. The bite is exciting and something I can’t wait to continue to explore.
